Minnesota student accepted by all eight Ivy League schools
Mounds Park Academy senior is accepted to all eight Ivy League schools, plus three others.
Minnesota high school senior Munira Khalif didn’t just get into her college of choice — she got into all eight Ivy League schools.
Oh, and add in Stanford University, Georgetown University and the University of Minnesota.
“It’s pretty remarkable,” said Randy Comfort, upper school director at Mounds Park, a private school in Maplewood. Comfort said the high school counsels students on where to apply. In Khalif’s case, she wanted “options and opportunities.”
The Ivy League schools are Brown University, Columbia University, Cornell University, Dartmouth College, Harvard University, University of Pennsylvania, Princeton University and Yale University.
Khalif , of Fridley, attributes her success to her community, school and a close family that values education. Khalif, whose favorite subjects are the social sciences, particularly history, took as many rigorous high school courses as possible, spending most of her time in Advanced Placement and honors classes. A Minnesota high school student has achieved the rare honor of being accepted by all 8 Ivy League schools, plus more highly accredited colleges. “I was very surprised,” Munira Khalif, senior at Mounds Park Academy, said.

“Munira has thrived in MPA's rigorous educational environment, where we challenge students to be intellectually curious and confident communicators,” Randy Comfort, MPA's upper school director, said.
World contributions
Khalif is one of just nine young people from around the world to receive the UN Special Envoy for Global Education's Youth Courage Award for her work as a young education activist.
A Twin Cities high school student has a big — and remarkable — decision to make.
Munira Khalif, a senior at Mounds Park Academy in St. Paul, was accepted into all eight Ivy League schools. “I was completely surprised,” Khalif said. Khalif also got into Stanford, the University of Minnesota and Georgetown. That cause comes from Khalif’s role model, her mother, who attended school in Somalia.
“Have an unrelentless pursuit of knowledge,” Khalif said.
Mounds Park Academy senior Munira Khalif has a big decision ahead of her. "There's a proverb that says when you educate a boy, you educate an individual," Khalif said. Lighting the Way provides scholarships, builds libraries and mitigates sanitation issues for girls.
Khalif hopes some college visits next week will help her decide which school to pick.
